Giving
with Team Heart

Your contributions to Team Heart, whether it is financial or time commitment, can mean all the difference to a Rwandan teenager or young adult suffering from the deadly heart condition known as rheumatic heart disease (RHD).

Team Heart’s Mission and Goals

Begin your exploration of Team Heart giving opportunities by understanding where our purpose truly lies:
Team Heart aims to help Rwanda create self-sustaining cardiac care. Through education on the causes and treatments of rheumatic heart disease Team Heart is helping to better equip the population (urban and rural) to better care for themselves.
In partnership with the Rwandan Ministry of Health, the Rwanda Biomedical Center, the Rwanda Heart Foundation, and select global partners, Team Heart will address the burden of cardiac disease with the following goals:

  • Establish a sustainable regional center of excellence in cardiac care, including cardiac surgery, a heart catheterization lab, rehabilitation and prevention, and research and education in collaboration with our local Rwandan partners at King Faisal Hospital.
  • Address the suffering of Rwandan adolescents and young adults afflicted with advanced RHD through surgical intervention so they may go on to lead productive and fulfilling lives.
  • Prevent advanced RHD through a combined effort of surveillance, prevention, education, and earlyDoante intervention.  This will exemplify an effective, countrywide intervention against this fatal disease and, thereby, inspire a scalable model for the region.
  • Support advocacy and poverty reduction initiatives for marginalized individuals afflicted by chronic heart disease, and the resulting impact on their ability to support themselves and their families.
